5 Ways To Brighten Up Your Bathroom - Legacy Bath and Kitchen

Written by Admin | Feb. 15, 2023
Having a dark bathroom can make it feel like you’re doing your business in a cave. Dark tile, countertops and minimal lighting make it hard to see what you’re doing and can even make your bathroom feel and look dirtier than it is. At Legacy Bath & Kitchen, we have plenty of experience brightening up homes through a few simple (and a few more complicated) brighter bathroom ideas.

1. Paint Your Bathroom

One of the easiest ways to make your bathroom feel brighter is to paint the walls a bright color. The brightest color you can choose is white, but you can also opt for a light beige or gray. The color white reflects the most light, making it a good choice for bathrooms that don’t have much lighting. Painting your bathroom white – or a color with a lot of white in it – maximizes the amount of light in your bathroom.

2. Add A Window

Perhaps the best way to brighten your bathroom is to add a window. Although this isn’t the cheapest or easiest option, installing a window in your bathroom can drastically improve the overall brightness of the room. If your bathroom has a wall on the exterior of your house, or the ceiling can be opened up to the outside without cutting through any other rooms, you may be able to add a window or a skylight.

3. Update Or Increase The Lighting

An obvious fix for a dark bathroom is to update or increase the amount of lighting in the room. There are many different types of bathroom lighting ideas that you can incorporate into your home. You can add can lights recessed into the ceiling of your bathroom, or you can add fixtures that compliment the design.

If you need more light when you’re getting ready in the morning, exploring a few different bathroom vanity ideas can help make the process easier. Consider adding sconces on either side of your bathroom mirror or lighting the mirror from behind. You can even add hidden lighting tucked under the base of your vanity so that those hard-to-clean crevices are more visible.

4. Add A Mirror Or Two

Mirrors are reflective surfaces, which means that they easily reflect the light you have in your bathroom. One way to brighten your bathroom is to install a larger mirror above the sink and vanity. Add a second mirror if you have enough wall space!

5. Update The Counters And Tile

Another effective way to brighten your bathroom is to replace the existing countertops and tile with a brighter alternative. When choosing new counters and tile, go for neutral tones that contain a lot of white. Light beiges, grays and pure white are all great options for tile and counters.
