Choosing the Right Cabinetry for Your Remodel | Legacy Bath & Kitchen

Written by Admin | Sep. 07, 2021
Has the interior of your home been feeling a little drab lately? Has it been a while since the last time your home underwent some improvements and refurbishing?

If you answered yes to either of the above questions it might be time to think about remodeling. One of the best places to start is in your kitchen or bathroom. A kitchen cabinet upgrade or bathroom cabinet upgrade can be the perfect place to start and bring some life back into your home.

Legacy Bath & Kitchen offers many options for both kitchen and bathroom remodeling, but there are numerous other steps to take and consider before any remodeling or home improvements can be made.

Step 1 – Set a Budget for Your Upgrades and Renovations

Before scheduling any upgrades, you should consider how much remodeling you’re able to do financially. It’s important to set a strict budget before you begin remodeling. Establishing a budget allows you to allocate how much money you’re both willing and able to spend on your cabinetry and ensure you have the funds to carry out your upgrades and remodeling projects.

Step 2 – Choosing Your Cabinetry Type

Before deciding on the actual style of your cabinets, you’ll need to decide what type of cabinetry you’d like to purchase: stock cabinetry, custom cabinetry, or semi-custom cabinetry.

Stock Cabinetry

Stock cabinets are cabinets that are already made and ready for sale at the store. These cabinets are typically the ones that are already out on display and most stock cabinets would be available to purchase and take home the same day or be shipped to your home rather quickly.

One of the drawbacks of choosing stock cabinets are that stock cabinets often have extremely limited selections. Customizations are also often very restricted and you can add little personalization. Stock cabinetry may also have limited storage space and options, which is important to consider while evaluating what you need from your cabinetry.

Despite these limitations though, stock cabinets are typically advantageous because of their lower cost and the fact that they will be ready for use and installation in a much shorter period of time than custom cabinets would be.

Custom Cabinetry

Choosing custom cabinetry would allow for numerous personalization options and give you many more storage options. With custom cabinetry, you would be able to create very unique pieces for your home, design your dream cabinets, obtain high-quality cabinetry for your home and choose from a variety of cabinet styles and finishes.

The main drawbacks for choosing custom cabinetry for your home renovations are the higher price tag and the time it takes for your custom cabinets to be designed, manufactured and shipped out to your home. This option might require a more extended project and more leeway concerning the completion of your remodeling upgrades.

Semi-Custom Cabinetry

Semi-custom cabinetry works as a kind of middle ground between stock cabinetry and custom cabinetry. Choosing to use custom cabinetry for your home is the perfect way to obtain quality cabinets with decent storage and style options at a reasonable price.

Step 3 – Choosing Your Style

After deciding whether you’d like to purchase stock cabinetry, custom cabinetry or semi-custom cabinetry, you’ll then move on to actually choosing your cabinet styles. During this step, you’ll either work with a designer to create your custom or semi-custom cabinetry or try to determine which stock cabinets have the style and specifications you’re looking for. Some things you’ll decide on while choosing styles for your cabinet upgrade are:

  • Framed vs. Frameless Cabinets
  • Deciding On A Finish (Stained Vs. Unstained)
  • Adding Hardware
  • Special Installations (ex. LED lights), etc.

Choosing the right cabinetry for your kitchen is a multi-step process, and each stage of the process is important, but one of the most important things to remember is that every decision you make regarding your cabinetry should be based on your remodeling needs and wants.
